Music and Tales Inspired by Mozart’s Grand Tours

Nicholas and the Aurora Orchestra continue their Kings Place Mozart Cycle on 17 September. This unique series, which launched in January 2016, presents the complete cycle of Mozart’s piano concerti over the next five years. For this latest instalment, Nicholas will conduct two of Mozart’s early concerti composed when he was just eighteen years old, Nos 5 and 6, featuring pianist Cédric Tiberghien. The programme will also feature works by Liszt, Mendelssohn and Paganini, with Aurora Orchestra leader Thomas Gould as soloist. The programme explores the music inspired by the travels of these great musicians in the 18th and 19th centuries, interwoven with specially commissioned animated films.

Listen to the King’s Place podcast featuring soloist Cédric Tiberghien, where he discusses the challenges and specific characters of the two concerti, as well as the programmatic theme of the concert:

The concert will also be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on 27 September.
