November sees Nicholas make debuts with two major German symphony orchestras: his concert debut with the Bamberger Symphoniker and debut with the Dresden Philharmonic.
On 5 and 7 November, he conducts the Bamberger Symphoniker at the Stadttheater Fürth in two great Russian works: Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No.1 (with soloist Ilian Garnetz) and Rachmaninov’s Symphony No.2.
Then on 10 and 11 November he conducts the Dresden Philharmonic at the newly refurbished Philharmonie im Kulturpalast, reopened just a few weeks ago, in a contrasting programme of jazz-influenced pieces: Gershwin’s An American in Paris, Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand with soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Ravel’s La Valse.
Watch Nicholas conduct a previous performance of La Valse here with the Brussels Philharmonic.
