Nicholas returns to the BBC Philharmonic on 21 October, conducting Beethoven Symphony No.5. Coupled with Sibelius’ Six Humoresques, starring acclaimed violinist James Ehnes, two works by Stravinsky show the orchestra’s different characters: Apollo, a subtly refined ballet scored for strings alone, and the punchier Symphonies of Wind Instruments.
