Inside Music on BBC Radio 3

This Saturday, 21 April, Nicholas appears on Inside Music on BBC Radio 3. Inside Music is a new programme on the station that delves deep into a selection of music by the guest. Nicholas discusses how when Joseph Haydn breaks the rules he produces his most endearing music, and describes just how Maurice Ravel skilfully manages to deconstruct the Viennese Waltz. His choices range from an emotionally pivotal moment in Bach’s B minor Mass, to a piano piece on which he had a teenage crush, plus a madcap movement by John Adams played by Nicholas’s own Aurora Orchestra. He also reveals his ‘must listen’ piece, a rarity from 1871 that he’d like to introduce to everyone. Tune in from 1pm, or listen back for 30 days. Preview clips for the programme can be heard here and here.

Also now available on BBC iPlayer is the enchanting performance by Nicholas and the Aurora Orchestra recorded at Kings Place on 7th April. The programme features music by Martin Suckling, Mozart and Beethoven. Listen here.
